The Media Capital team was exploring innovative ways to expand their media offerings and decided to experiment with a FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channel. Recognizing the need for a sophisticated, yet user-friendly SaaS (Software as a Service) solution for this venture, they turned to Veset Nimbus. Media Capital sought a platform that could seamlessly support advanced features such as graphics and subtitles, while also providing the flexibility to easily create and schedule new channels, in line with their forward-looking expansion plans. After thorough evaluation, Media Capital chose Veset Nimbus for its cloud-native capabilities and its compatibility with their strategic goals. The deployment of the FAST channel on Veset Nimbus allowed for seamless integration with Media Capital's existing OTT platform and was adaptable for distribution across various smart TV applications, including AppleTV, Samsung, AndroidTV, and LG Smart TV.
From the technical perspective, it was a project that included both the use of built-in Nimbus features - like scheduling and media asset management (MAM), and integration with Media Capital’s existing platform via custom XML EPG import over easy-to-use APIs provided by Nimbus. The channel was played out to multiple different headend locations over HLS, SRT, and RTMP protocols. Also, advertisement insertion functionality was used to enable ad replacement by Media Capital’s existing OTT platform.
A crucial factor in this collaboration was Nimbus's unique architecture, which enabled the deployment of Media Capital's linear channel infrastructure directly within their own AWS (Amazon Web Services) environment. This approach ensured that Media Capital maintained complete control over their AWS resources and existing commercial agreements, aligning perfectly with their preference for a cloud-centric operating model.
