Telia has implemented disaster recovery (DR) solution for Latvian Television’s (LTV), the national broadcaster of Latvia, main television channel LTV1 using Telia Media Services cloud-based professional playout platform provided by Veset Nimbus.
LTV was looking for a cost efficient DR solution that did not require additional investment into physical infrastructure and hardware. Telia provides the enterprise grade Cloudy Servers public cloud infrastructure and Telia Media Services components for the joint service with Veset Nimbus to provide 100% cloud-based disaster recovery solution for LTV that requires minimum upfront investment but can provide a long-term stable solution in case of a major disaster. LTV is now able to access its cloud-based DR playout via web-based user interface from any workplace where the LTV responsible person is available.
Ilana Einmane, CIO of Latvian Television, said: “As for any national television channel, it is a huge priority for us to have our channel on air in case of a major disaster. We feel that having a cloud based DR solution that does not rely on a physical infrastructure is a common sense approach and provides us with the maximum flexibility required in such situations. Another advantage of this setup is that it requires minimal changes to our daily workflow and no additional investment (both upfront and continuous maintenance) necessary in case of a physical DR infrastructure.”
Mārtiņš Paurs, CCO of Telia, commented: “Modern broadcaster, like Latvian Television, needs, and services and technologies provided by Telia Media Services are a perfect match. Tirelessly working on solutions for broadcasting industry for years now, merging our network, cloud and CDN capabilities and competencies with best-of-breed technologies from partner ecosystem, Telia is proud to satisfy most demanding customers and support them in their advance towards reaching high flexibility and technological perfection yet cost efficiency.”
Igor Krol, CEO of Veset, admitted: “It is a privilege for us to work with Latvian national television channel. We strongly believe that cloud-based DR is a natural choice for every broadcaster still operating hardware-based playouts. It provides maximum flexibility at a fraction of the cost and minimal upfront investment. We hope to significantly expand deployment of Veset Nimbus for DR projects in the near future as broadcasting industry continues embracing modern cloud-based technologies.”
