Playout redundancy: 1+1 hot backup, HA and input fallback

Nimbus can run two synchronised playouts with the same outputs, in one AWS region or two, and your receiver or MCR chooses which feed goes on air. Nimbus HA covers multi-region setups, and every live input can fall back on its own.

1+1 hot backup

Two playouts run in sync and send the same outputs. You receive two identical feeds, and your receiver or MCR chooses which one goes on air.

Nimbus doesn't switch between the two, so the on-air decision stays in your own chain. Run the pair in one AWS region or across two.

Other layers of protection

  • Nimbus HA

    High availability across several regions.

  • Live input fallback

If a live input drops, the playout switches to a backup input or the emergency playlist or slate, alerts you, and returns to live when the signal comes back.

  • Path redundancy

Dual RTP and Dual RTP-FEC 2D outputs send the same stream over two network paths.

  • Alerts

By email and webhooks, for example to Slack, alongside live preview and output status in the console.

  • Cloud DR for on-prem playout

A cloud backup for broadcasters whose main playout runs in their own facility.

Frequently asked questions

Does Nimbus switch automatically between the main and backup playout?

No. Both playouts send identical feeds, and your receiver or MCR chooses which one goes on air.

Can the two playouts run in different regions?

Yes. The 1+1 pair can run in one AWS region or two. Nimbus HA is available for multi-region setups.

What happens if a live input fails?

The playout falls back to a backup input or the emergency playlist or slate, sends an alert, and returns to live when the signal comes back.

Is there an SLA?

An SLA is offered on Enterprise contracts, which have a 1-year minimum.

What does redundancy cost?

HA and Enterprise have no public price. Ask us for a quote.

We run playout on-prem. Can Nimbus be our backup?

Yes. That's cloud DR, starting at $499 per channel per month with 24 hours of active playback included. See disaster recovery.
