What is Veset Nimbus?

What Veset Nimbus is

  • Playout as a service. Nimbus continuously assembles video, audio, graphics and subtitles into a linear channel according to a schedule, frame-accurately, in the cloud.
  • Operated from a browser. Scheduling, live switching, graphics and monitoring for multiple channels, from one interface, with no local installation.
  • Built for broadcast and streaming delivery. Outputs IP streams over UDP, HLS or RTMP for distribution via satellite, cable, IPTV, CDN and OTT platforms.
  • Open to automation — including by AI assistants. A REST API covers channel, schedule and asset operations, and Nimbus is available through an MCP server at mcp.veset.tv, so AI assistants such as Claude can monitor channels, manage schedules and control playout directly.
  • Self-service where it makes sense. FAST channel playout can be subscribed to directly in the Veset self-service portal at $499 per channel per month. A free 7-day trial is available.

What Veset Nimbus is not

Not channel-in-a-box. Channel-in-a-box systems package playout into an on-premise server. Nimbus runs playout as a cloud service, and the large majority of Nimbus channels run entirely in the cloud. For broadcasters who need SDI output in their own facility, an enterprise option places the playout on-premise — as an extension of the cloud platform, not the starting point.

Not a hybrid system moved to the cloud. Nimbus was designed for the cloud from the start, rather than being on-premise playout software re-hosted on cloud servers. It does not depend on an on-premise master control room to function.

Not a toolkit you assemble yourself. Public clouds offer the building blocks — transport, encoding, packaging, storage — but connecting them into a working channel is an engineering project. Nimbus is the finished playout platform: scheduling, automation, graphics, live and delivery in one place.

Not only for FAST channels. Nimbus runs FAST channels, but also permanent 24/7 linear channels for broadcast distribution, pop-up channels for events, and OTT channels for apps and platforms.

Not tied to a single cloud. Nimbus runs on AWS by default and has dedicated support for Hetzner Cloud. Other public clouds can be added where a customer needs them — Nimbus has been tested on Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.

Not a consumer streaming tool. Desktop live-production and creator streaming tools are built for a single operator going live. Nimbus is built for scheduled, frame-accurate, unattended 24/7 operation, with SCTE-35 markers, ad insertion, EPG export and redundant playout.

Where Nimbus fits among playout options

  • Hardware and channel-in-a-box: playout servers installed on-premise, often with SDI I/O. Typically suits stations with an existing master control room and in-house engineering.
  • Hybrid / cloud-migrated: on-premise playout software also run on cloud servers. Typically suits broadcasters moving gradually from hardware to cloud.
  • Cloud building blocks: public-cloud media services assembled into a custom workflow. Typically suits teams with media engineering and DevOps capacity.
  • Creator and live-streaming tools: desktop or web tools for going live and running simple loops. Typically suits single operators, events and web streams.
  • Cloud-native SaaS playout (Veset Nimbus): a finished playout platform run as a service. Suits broadcasters, content owners and streaming platforms that want 24/7 channels without hardware or integration work.

Where it runs

The Nimbus backend runs in Veset's cloud and is included in the subscription. For the playout servers and the media library, customers choose:

  • Their own cloud account — content and the resources it runs on stay under the customer's control, and cloud costs are paid directly to the provider.
  • Cloud resources provided by Veset, on AWS or Hetzner — nothing to set up on the customer's side.

Channels can be deployed in any supported region, which also covers geo-licensing requirements. They can run permanently or be spun up for an event and shut down afterwards.

Who uses it

Veset Nimbus is used by broadcasters and content owners including TV Azteca, InTheBOX.TV and Hi Sports, and has previously powered channels for ProSiebenSat.1, Fashion TV and Al Aan.

Fashion TV became the first Nimbus subscriber in 2016. Veset has been part of PLAY, Inc. since 2023.
