Being a public content service provider, TM is heavily relied on by the Malaysian public, providing local and essential content delivery to homes everywhere. With this, comes high expectations, particularly as the media landscape shifts rapidly towards a cloud-based, VOD centred future. TM has been providing content through the most pivotal moments in media history, from the shift to digital TV from analogue and the adoption of HD broadcast in 2021. As the expectations of customers begin to transform, so must its approach to workflows and the distribution of content.
With content, and the way it is being consumed and distributed, changing almost daily, TM has started its journey towards a future-proof, robust approach to a modernised media landscape. Working with Veset and Theta Edge, TM has successfully migrated 10 of its regional TV channels to the cloud with Veset Nimbus.
Much of the content today, from a consumer and vendor perspective, is being increasingly powered by the cloud. TM’s decision to move forward with the ambitious shift to cloud playout from traditional broadcast methods will enable TM to deliver high-quality, multi-platform content to Malaysian audiences, gaining the ability to scale for viewer demand.
With the addition of Veset Nimbus into its content workflows, TM has transitioned from the constraints of traditional hardware-based broadcasting to a cloud-native solution that streamlines operations, enhances agility and reduces infrastructure costs. This cloud-first migration allows for faster deployment of new channels and provides a more resilient, high-performance broadcasting infrastructure.
Migrating 10 channels for TM came with a range of technical challenges. The project demanded strict adherence to the reliability and security requirements set by multiple internal teams. In addition, Veset delivered custom development to ensure seamless integration with TM’s existing on-premise systems ranging from single sign-on (SSO) to system event log shipping.
TM’s decision to embrace cloud playout demonstrates its ongoing commitment to innovation, and to the customers that have relied on its services since 1984. Traditional broadcasting models often struggle with the speed and flexibility required in today’s media landscape. TM’s migration to Veset Nimbus ensures that it remains at the forefront of Malaysia’s broadcasting, delivering seamless, high-quality content without the limitations of physical infrastructure.
Telekom Malaysia (TM) has been providing the Malaysian people with high-quality, consistent content since 1984, successfully navigating some of the most challenging media and entertainment milestones. Specialising in communication services, mobility, content, WiFi, cloud, cybersecurity and smart services, TM is powered by a highly competitive environment and has always provided continuously improved services to its customers.
